Reduced pay parking for festive season
THERE is a Christmas bonus for shoppers in Drogheda this month as Louth County
Council (LCC) announced a cut in the price of pay parking during the festive season.
As part of the incentive to encourage people to ‘Shop
Local’ over the Christmas period, pay parking in the urban area of Drogheda will be reduced 60c per hour from
December 1st, 2017 until January 7th, 2018.
This reduction applies to both on-street parking and the car parks managed by
Louth County Council and is be clearly displayed on the pay parking machines.
However, the charges at the Long Term Car Parks remains unchanged.
The news comes following the announcement that the
Abbey car park has re-opened for the busy Christmas period after it had remained closed for more than 18 months during the duration of the building of the town’s new courthouse.
The re-opening of the car park provides much needed space for shoppers in the town in what is one of the busiest times of the year.
At the December meeting of Louth County Council (LCC), Councillor Frank Godfrey congratulated the council on the reduced parking charges for Chirstmas which, he said, has a hugely positive impact on local trade.
‘I’m glad the council is supporting local business,’ he said. He also asked when the Pay by Text scheme will be introduced in Drogheda which he said would be much easier for shoppers than trying to look for the correct change.
