Jimmy and Aileen shine

-

THERE was a full house for the final of the Greenhills turkey doubles as Jimmy and Aileen showed they still have the touch.

The final pairing after six weeks play saw Aileen Fitzgerald and Jimmy Flood pitted against Anna Farrell and John Hurley.

Jimmy and Aileen started the game brightly taking a two-shot lead. Anna and John were very uneasy at the start but grew into the game in the fourth end edging ahead by one.

And they cleverly called a short jack and caught their opponents on the hop increasing their lead in the fifth end to three up.

Jimmy almost single-handedly dragged his team back into the game hitting a serious purple patch in the next two ends to go one up.

The last two ends provided plenty of drama with John and Anna getting into their rhythm playing some lovely bowls to the head to regain the lead one end to play.

Both teams went at it all guns blazing, trading shot for shot. A little bit of magic was required and it came from Jimmy and Aileen with two glorious shots to the jack to win the title by three shots.

Chairman Val Maguire stated in his address that he would like to congratulate the finalists on a great final as it kept members on the edge of their seats with Jimmy and Aileen nicking the final in the last end.

He added he would like to thank every member who participated in the tournament and the umpires for officiating in the games, and the ladies for providing the refreshments throughout the tournament.

The club wishes all the members their families and friends a very happy Christmas. Play will resume on 9th January.
