MMM’streatedto greatchoirnight
THE obvious affinity which has developed between the Drogheda Male Voice Choir and the Sisters of the order of the Medical Missionaries of Mary over the past three years was once again apparent when they jointly shared a Mass for their respective deceased members at the MMM Motherhouse in Beechgrove last Thursday.
Sister Helen Spragg once again welcomed the members of the DMVC and their friends to the Motherhouse for what she described as an occasion which is now looked forward to with great anticipation by the resident sisters.
The commemorative Mass was celebrated by Fr Phil Gaffney, Parish Priest of St Mary’s in Drogheda, to an appreciative congregation and was beautifully supported by the Male Voice Choir.
When the Mass concluded the choirs liturgical repertoire was extended to entertain the Sisters with some lovely pieces before concluding the excellent recital with their exquisite Soprano, Amie Dyer, and a magnificent rendition of the “Holy City”.
It was left to Sister Helen Aherne, to propose an enormous vote of thanks, on behalf of all her fellow Sisters, for what she said was a magnificent evening. She praised the Drogheda Male Voice Choir for taking the time to provide them with such a lovely evening and continued by saying that she was well aware of their exploits through the Drogheda Independent which is a well read journal in the motherhouse.
Mr Tom O’Relly, chairman of the DMVC reciprocated the remarks of Sisters Spragg and Aherne when he stated that the choir were indeed honoured to perform for such a worthy audience and also to commemorate all the deceased members of the DMVC and the MMM’s. He concluded by admitting that it was indeed the highlight of the year for the choir.
