Terry was dedicated to mum

-

THE sudden death has taken place of Terry Matthews, St Mary’s Villas, Kilsaran, at his residence on 13 December, 2017. He was predeceased by his father, Pat.

Terry was educated in Kilsaran NS, and from there went to the Christian Brothers, Dundalk.

When he left school, he served his time as a barman, and started working in the local pub which was then run by Mr Noel Gormley.

He spent many happy years there, and moved on to work in various other establishments, including the Carrickdale Hotel where he worked for many years.

Terry was a keen sportsman in his youth, having won many prizes for tennis, badminton and, of course, snooker, which he continued to play right up to the end.

He enjoyed the simple things in life, and was dedicated to his mother, Esther, who is currently in the care of the staff at St Gerard’s Unit, Dundalk.

Music was something Terry also had a great love for, and his many friends would say that his gift of wit and wisdom was something they will always remember.

He is survived by his brother, Paul; sisters Rita, Patricia and Margaret; nieces, nephew and extended family.

Terry reposed at Connor’s Funeral Home, Dunleer, and his remains were taken to St Mary’s Church, Kilsaran, where Mass was celebrated by Fr. Sheehan.

Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery, where Terry was laid to rest with his father, Pat.

The readings were given by Terry’s friends, Gavin and Seán, and a special communion reflection was given by his good friend Siobhán.

The music was accompanied by the wonderful voice of Sarah McCourt. The Month’s Mind Mass will take place on Sunday, 21 January, 2018, in Kilsaran Church at 11:00am.
