Big year ahead for all at the Lourdes club

-

IN his address to what was the largest attendance at an annual general meeting of Lourdes Athletic Club for many years, chairman Mr. Paddy Balfe said that the coming year would be one of the most important in the history of the Lourdes A.C.

The task ahead was a mighty one and a lot of money would be required to restore the stadium.

But the chairman said he was confident that the club had the right people to achieve it. When asked about dates etc., for the stadium the chairman pointed out that all dates were the responsibility of the Lourdes Administration Committee and that all fees for the use of the stadium would go into a special fund set up for the restoration of the stadium.

In his report the outgoing secretary Mr. Oliver McKenna paid tribute to both the seniors and juveniles who brought top honours to the club during the past year. To the juveniles for making history by becoming the only club in Louth to win the Globe Trophy Championship for the fourth year in a row.

To Mark McKenna on being the only Louth athlete to win a “gold” in the Community Games and for also winning two shields representing Ireland in the Catholic Students games. To Susanne Campbell for winning a gold for Ireland in the same games. To Emer Cullen for her silver in the All Irelands, to Dessie Dyas for his Leinster success and in general to all the juveniles for making it a really marvellous year for the club.

The secretary then said that he could not let it pass without paying a special tribute to one of the senior men namely Liam Reilly for his magnificent performance all year against the top athletes in the country. The secretary then paid tribute to the senior squad .
