Ramblers CC return

-

THE long hot days of summer at back with us again and it’s time for the members of the local Drogheda Ramblers Cricket Club to return to the crease for another season In the Fingal League.

Widely regarded as one of the most competitive in the country, the league runs off games every Wednesday evening for the next couple of months.

But for those interested in taking up the sport then an offer has come from the club this week for interested bodies to attend the weekly training sessions every Monday (6.30pm) on the Rugby field at the rear of the Droghcda Grammar School. In existance now for some five years the Droghcda side has managed a couple of stirring victories in their one day games but as team member Sean Faulkner remarked it’s very much a social club with a slightly competitive edge. “We really play for a bit of fun and just play on Wednesdays,” he stated.” The season is compressed into a couple of months.”

Based at the Grammar School for the past two vears where a wicket has been developed, the Ramblers have been taking a keen interest in the fortunes of the school which just recently had their first competitive game against High. School A in 325 years!

“They did quite well for a first match and hopefully their game will develop over the next few years,” Sean remarked.

The Under 14 team will play in the Lelnster League and already other students are beginning to find their way onto the Ramblers team including rated badminton player Gary Monk.

Their line up also includes Joe Keogh, the experienced skipper who has been playing with The Hills in Skerries for some years and is the present vice chairman of the Fingal League, Padraig Duffy, Clogherhead natives Liam and Denis Kelleher, Dave Doherty, Arthur Mullen, Sean Faulkner, Joe Bellew, Frank Buckley and Bob Hopkins from the Grammar School.
