Young Women’s Foroige group do their bit for Temple Street

-

THE Young Women’s group from the Foroige CABLE Project rounded off 2017 in style by raising money for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Leanne Bellew, Leah Leonard, Courtney Gorman, Sonia O’Connor and Stephanie Murphy have been taking part in a Citizenship programme in the project for the last 6 months which focuses on getting young people to explore their community’s needs, look at creative ways of meeting these needs and finding out whether their programme has made an impact.

At the beginning of the programme, the girls carried out an audit of their community and the needs within it. A large range of possible areas of focus presented themselves but ultimately the girls believed that helping young children suffering from severe illness was where they wanted to concentrate their efforts on.

The girls then decided to create crafts for Christmas and sell them in order to raise as much money as they possibly could. The ideas began to flow and they made loads of decorations, then started creating their own take on Christmas cards before throwing tons of sweets into little goodie bags.

Next stop was the RDS for the National Craft Fair where the young people had a stall. The girls packed up the van and headed off. They day was a great success and they made lots of sales. The girls also set up a Facebook page to sell what was left and ended up raising €123 which was donated straight to Temple Street.

Overall is was a great project that the girls got so much out of. They got such a sense of achievement and were delighted to make a bit of a difference in the lives of the children in Temple St.
