Rose Morgan retires from the Lourdes

ALMOST 20 years of dedicated service as a member off Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital’s household staff ended on Friday last with the retirement of Rose Morgan.

Rose, a sprightly 70-year-old of Waterunder, Drogheda, whose husband, Phillip, died 16 years ago, commenced work on the children’s floor of the hospital in September 1967 and four years later transferre­d to the school of nursing which she has kept In tip-top shape for 16 years.

As Matron, Sr. Kathleen Veale said at Friday’s presentati­on function In the school: “Rose took a great personal interest in the upkeep of the school. She minded it like a new bom baby. She was always punctual and turned up In hall, rain or snow, rarely missing a day. We will be sorry to lose her.”

Rose, whose daughter Maureen and son Terry also live in Waterunder, received presentati­ons from the student nurses, school secretary (Mary Fagan) and tutorial staff, school librarian (Mary Mclvor) as well as the hospital, convent, catering and household staffs.

Among those present at Friday’s farewell party were Jean Marry (Tutorial Staff ), Rosaleen Butterly (Matron’s secretary), Lottie Sweeney (household staff supervisor), Rose Seery, (clinical teacher), Sr. Marie Stella Cunningham (principal tutor), Sr. Elizabeth Dooley (secretary manager school of nursing), Sr. Augustine Sheridan (Convent assistant superior), Sr. Triona Harvey MMM (tutor course lecturer UCD) Mary Qulnan (acting administra­tor), Patricia Farrell (catering officer), Marie Drew (asst. catering officer).
