Chris Byrne bags the opener for Spurs lads

QUALITY and low prices in the shape of McDonnells Quality Shop have come to Hardmans Gardens, Drogheda (above).

Formerly Matthews, this new supermarke­t and newsagents boasts a wide range of goods for the local shopper. The spacious new store contains everything from fruit and vegetables to fresh meat and magazines.

Owned by Mr. Ian McDonnell, there can be no doubt about the service and guaranteed quality available. Mr. McDonnell has been in the supermarke­t business in Co. Louth for over 10 years now with Londis Supermarke­ts in Ardee and Dunleer.

The shop opens at 9 a.m. and closes at, 11 p.m., seven days a week.

And while this late night shopping service is not all that common in Drogheda, the shopper can expect to pay only reasonable prices, unlike some of the late night shops that have sprung up in Dublin.

AT Dunleer, on Friday night, in very wet conditions, the Golf Bar and Spurs overcame the elements to provide some great football for the Donegan Cup.

Spurs registered the opener with a fine shot on the run from Chris Byrne to leave the score at the break 1-0 in Spurs’ favour.

In the second half Golf Bar got a deserved equaliser when Martin McDonnell headed home a cross from Ollie Berrill. Spurs, with Jim Byrne and Jerome Clarke, outstandin­g, scored what proved the winning goal when the Golf Bar failed to clear a corner and J Clarke, with a fine drive netted.

Verdict: a fine final on which both teams must be congratula­ted. . Outstandin­g for Spurs were Buckley, C, Byrne and J. Clarke, and for Golf Bar, M. McDonnell, D. Fulham, V, Rock.

The trophy was presented by Mr. Gerry Byrne, the secretary of the I.T.G.W,U. of A.E.T.. Dunleer, to the Spurs captain, Jerome Clarke. The Secretary of A.E.T. football club John McCann thanked all the teams for taking part in the competitio­n, and Mr. P. Donegan, T.D., for donating the trophy.
