Dundalk IT book DCU showdown

-

DkIT Trinity College 1-18 0-10

DKIT will face the mighty DCU in the first round of the Sigerson Cup this Wednesday night in DkIT (7.00) with a convincing preliminary round victory over Trinity College.

The Dundalk side were always a step ahead of their Dublin counterparts, and will now face four-time champions DCU.

Points by Donal Meegan, Gerry McSorley and Conor Doherty helped DKIT to establish an early three-point advantage (0-4 to 0-1). James McGuinness and Dylan Brady briefly narrowed the gap for Trinity, before David McGivney flicked a Shea Hoey sideline to the net at the end of a strong purple patch.

Additional contributions from Colm Meegan, Tadhg McEnaney (two) and McSorley subsequently ensured that Oisin McConville’s charges held a commanding 1-13 to 0-4 interval lead. Trinity - who will host this year’s decider - did make a bright start to the second period, when Guinness converted a tricky 30-metre free.

However, thanks to a 0-2 salvo from McEnaney, DKIT remained in control of their own destiny. Trinity’s woes were compounded by the 52nd-minute dismissal of Eoin O’Neill, and thanks to late points from David McLoughlin and Kevin Traynor, DKIT advanced in fine style.
