MEATH DOWN 4-13 2-2

MEATH made the perfect start to the Division 3 NFL campaign when demolishing visitors Down at a miserable Dunganny last Sunday.

They didn’t make the best start to the game, though, conceding a goal in the opening minute, but after that it was mainly one-way traffic as the hosts built up a 2-10 to 1-1 lead by half-time.

Following the concession of that goal Meath hit back with six successive points to take command of the game. Their opening goal came from the penalty spot, converted by Seneschalstown’s Stacey Grimes, following a foul on Vikki Wall which resulted in a yellow card for the Down keeper.

Despite playing against the elements there was no stopping Meath and St Patrick’s Stamullen’s Emma White hit a brilliant second goal.

Down were much more competitive in the second half and Meath keeper Judy Bobbett was forced into a number of fine saves.

Both second half goals for Meath came from Vikki Wall, who finished with 2-3, while Stacey Grimes contributed 1-5 to her side’s tally.

Meath will be seeking to continue their winning ways when they take on Longford in their next outing this Saturday.
