Successful day for St Peter’s athletes
ST PETER’S athletes got some perfect preparation in for the upcoming indoor championships when making the short journey to Cushinstown for their indoor meeting at the Kilmoon Cross venue.
This was a great event and Grace Carey got the ball rolling for the club when she won her first individual medal with a second-place finish in the girls under 9 race. Her older sister Catherine also had a very good run in the girls under 10 race, finishing just outside the medals.
Orla McLoughlin ran a brilliant heat in the girls under 11, leading the way from start to finish and a having strong run in the final, missing out on a medal by the narrowest of margins. Orla also put on a really good performance in the girls under 12 Long jump competition.
Dearbhla Allen ran very well in the girls under 12 sprint and had a decent performance in the under 12 Long jump.
In the girls under 13 the club had three girls compete. Lucy Brennan led the charge by winning her heat in the sprints and finishing second in the final to collect a silver medal, while both Ellie Fitzpatrick and Isabeal Fitzpatrick were unlucky not to qualify for the final as both finished third in tough heats and only two qualified from each.
Niamh Brady had a successful day when she collected medals in both the under 14 Hurdles with a third-place finish and then followed that up with a silver medal in the under 15 high jump.
Sean Allen was the only boy to compete for the club on the day and he managed to pocket three medals for his efforts, with a third-place finish in the boys U14 Hurdles, a third-place finish in the boys under 14 Long jump and third place in the boys under 15 shot putt.
Training continues this Tuesday night as our athletes prepare for the upcoming Leinster Indoor Championships.
