OUR LADY’S COLLEGE MARYFIELD 31 20

OUR Lady’s College Greenhills can look forward to an Under-16 Division 1 Final in the SSA Leagues after overcoming Maryfield College of Drumcondra in their semi last week.

The tie was played on neutral territory at ALSAA Sports Complex and was effectively won in an explosive first quarter which saw Ava Prendergast contribute 11 points as the Boynesiders stormed 13–0 clear. The momentum swung towards Maryfield in the second quarter as they scored 10 points and limited Our Lady’s to just a single basket, and the gap was down to three points after quarter three despite scores by Lynn Victory and Oyin Adelegan.

However, Prendergast started the fourth quarter as she had done in the first, scoring two quick baskets, and Adelegan seemed to get her wind in this quarter and after a superb defensive rebound drove the length of the floor to score an uncontested basket.

She was to repeat that feat twice more before the final whistle and with her and Prendergast scoring 12 points between them in the quarter the difference was 11 at the final whistle. Indeed, Prendergast hit 17 in the match which is a season high for her.

The final, on February 19th, will be a third in a row for most of these players.

UNDER-16 DIVISION 1: Catherine Grey; Oyin Adelegan 8pts; Leah Bastianelli; Shona Bradley; Eimear Clarke; Eimear Faulkner; Holly Garry; Bronagh Lane; Ruby Matthews 2; Ofu Obhakhan; Ava Prendergast 17; Maia Savage 2; Lynn Victory 4.
