TRIBUTES have been paid to two much loved women who died in separate traffic accidents in the past week.

Claire Mullen from Tullyallen died after her car was in collision with a van on the Slane Road (main picture) on Thursday morning. She worked at the Newgrange Interpretive Centre as a guide.

Keady Clifford (pictured), daughter of Archie Clifford from Termonfeckin and Drogheda native Linda Balfe, also passed away after an accident in Cork.

She was described as a ‘unique individual, beautiful on the inside and out’. She worked as a nurse in Cork hospital.

THE local area is in mourning this week following the tragic death of local woman Claire Mullen (59) in a road traffic accident on the Slane Road last Thursday, February 1st.

Claire was well known throughout the Drogheda area and beyond through her work as a guide at the Brú na Bóinne Interpretive Centre at Newgrange.

The visitor centre was closed on Monday as a mark of respect to a woman who was an esteemed colleague to all who worked there.

Ms Mullen was driving a Renault Clio car when it was involved in an accident with a van at the King William’s Glen junction on the Slane Road shortly after 8am on Thursday morning.

She was treated at the scene and removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda but died a short time later as a result of injuries received in the accident.

Two others, the driver and passenger of the van, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Ms Mullen, a mother of three grown up children, had been living in Tullyallen and was a former resident of Sheepgrange.

The road was closed for a number of hours to allow gardaí to carry out a forensic examination of the scene and reopened later on Thursday evening.

Anyone with any information on the accident is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station on (041) 9874200.

Ms Mullen (nee Walsh), is survived by her husband, Sean children Michelle, Rita and Peter, sons-in-law Wayne and Eoghan, daughter-in-law Rachael, granddaughters Leah, Anna, Aveen and Aoife, sister Patricia, brother Tom, brothers-in-law, sisters-inlaw, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

She was reposed at her daughter Michelle’s home in Sheepgrange on Saturday and Sunday before removal took place on Monday morning to the Church of the Assumption in Tullyallen for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial took place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
