An exciting new treatment for female urinary incontinen­ce was launched this week in Drogheda Medical Clinic. ThermiVa, a new radio frequency thermal heat treatment that stimulates production of new collagen in vulvo-vaginal region resulting in an overall tightening was launched by the principal of Drogheda Medical Clinic, Dr Oliver Lynn with his practice nurses Julie McDonnell and Martina Finnegan.

Female urinary incontinen­ce is more than a health issue; it affects womens social, psychologi­cal and emotional wellbeing. ThermiVa is a non-surgical, in-office procedure using radiofrequ­ency energy to heat vulvo-vaginal tissue causing tightening of tissue, increasing collagen production (which restores suppleness of tissue), and increases blood flow.

Up until now, physiother­apy exercises and surgery where the main stay of treatment for this distressin­g condition of urinary stress incontinen­ce.

Now Thermiva offers a non-invasive, non-hormonal, no anaestheti­c, and no downtime, in a surgery setting without hospitalis­ation. This gives 80% success in the treatment of stress incontinen­ce and several other health benefits.

Dr. Lynn said the ease of access of this new treatment and its simplicity with immediate benefits will be the key to its success. it is the first of its type in Ireland in a primary care setting.
