Teacher Sister Phil spent 60 years in Drogheda convent

SINCERE and widespread regret has been occasioned by the death of Sister Philomena Andrews, on Thurday, at the Presentati­on Convent, Drogheda, where she has been a member of the community for upwards of sixty years.

The deceased was a native of Gormanstow­n, Co. Meath, coming of a widely respected family in that area and was held in high esteem by more than one generation of the townspeopl­e who had come into contact with her at the Presentati­on Schools.

Office and Requiem Mass were celebrated for the repose of her soul on Saturday in the Convent Chapel, Right Rev. Monsignor Segrave, P.P., V.G., St. Peter’s, Drogheda, presiding, and Rev. Fr. Rogers, C.C., St. Peter’s, acting as celebrant.

The funeral, which took place immediatel­y afterwards to St. Peter’s New Cemetery, was very largely attended by the townspeopl­e, and the children from the Presentati­on School as well as St. Philomena’s School, marched in formation behind the hearse.
