SYDDAN 2-10 CASTLETOWN 2-6 SYDDAN continue to set the pace in Division 2 after overcoming the stiff challenge of neighbours Castletown at home on Sunday.

A goal at the start of each half proved crucial for the hosts and ensured that they continued their unbeaten run.

Daire Rowe had the hosts off to the perfect start with a first-minute goal from the penalty spot following a foul on Michael Fedigan as he made tracks towards the danger area.

That goal helped Syddan to within a point of Castletown at the break, 1-4 to 1-5, after the visitors had played with the stiff breeze in the opening half.

The home side never looked back after Sean Clare sent a stinging effort to the roof of the net within two minutes of the restart.

Syddan’s lead stretched to five points in the closing stages before a late Darren Finney goal gave Castletown a glimmer of hope. However, substitute Brian Dillon quenched any hopes of a Castletown revival with the last two points of the game.

Syddan created three goal chances in the opening eight minutes but only managed to convert one of them. Daire Rowe dragged an effort wide of the target on six minutes, while shortly after, full forward Kevin Traynor blasted over the bar with only keeper Jonathan Ginnity to beat.

Castletown’s first-half goal also came from the penalty spot, converted by Kevin Ross after he himself was fouled. With Ross in fine form Castletown led 1-4 to 1-2 after 18 minutes.

Daire Rowe replied with two pointed frees for Syddan before Ross, from a free, had Castletown ahead at the break.

Cathal Dardis added to the goal early in the second half, while Castletown’s only score in the third quarter was from a free converted by Ross.

Syddan, though, edged the second-half exchanges and were full value for their four-point win. SENESCHALSTOWN 2-13 DULEEK-BELLEWSTOWN 2-8 TWO second-half goals from substitute Darren Mills wasn’t enough to prevent Duleek-Bellewstown from going down to defeat to their neighbours at Seneschalstown last Sunday.

The game’s opening goal arrived in the third quarter when Brian Sheridan netted from the penalty spot following a foul on Clarke.

CURRAHA 3-12 ST MICHAEL’S 0-8 THIS repeat of last year’ Intermediate final produced a similar outcome, a runaway victory for Curraha in Carlanstown last Sunday.

It was Curraha who drew first blood with a goal from Andrew Battersby on six minutes. The home side responded, however, and had two points on the board before Conor Moriarty raised the white flag for Curraha with a converted free.

St Michael’s gained the upper hand for a spell after that, scoring five successive points in the process. However, a point from a ‘45 followed by a goal from the penalty spot had Curraha ahead at the break, 2-2 to 0-7.

The hosts opened the second half with a point to draw the sides level, but this proved to be their last score of the game.

Sean Keogh pointed Curraha ahead before Battersby struck for his second goal. That left the scoreline reading 3-3 to 0-8 heading into the final quarter.

Curraha kicked on from there to the finish with points from David Toner (two), Moriarty (two), David Coyle, Padraic O’Hanrahan, Seamus Hogan, Andrew Coyle and Niall McLarnon.
