Tipperary’s play was much more varied than Meath’s predictable, slow and ponderous build-up. A DISILLUSIONED Andy McEntee (pictured right) conceded that promotion is now probably beyond Meath’s reach after a second successive defeat on the road at Temple Stadium, Thurles, last Saturday evening.

He also conceded that he didn’t know the reasons for yet another inept display from his charges.

‘I don’t know what has went wrong in the last few matches. We started with high energy levels, unlike last week, and we were right in the game,’ he began.

‘Then we gave away a couple of balls, dropped a few short and a few chances were missed, and still there was only three points in it coming in to half-time and there was a bit of a breeze there and you would be okay with that.

‘Then we lose possession at one end of the field and they go up the field andnd score a goal. The ballall is kicked out and it’s half-time. e. Suddenly we e are six points in arrears.

‘We come out in the second half get t three points in n a row, we give ve away possession, sion, concede anotherher goal and we are back to where we starstarted. We were chasing chasi the game at ththat stage, facing ing into another defeat de and lads begin be to lose confidence. co ‘You would think thin that is the end of the promotion motio hopes. It is goingoing to be very difficult frofrom here in. All we can think about is the next game and try and get our heads around that.

‘We paid the price. Both goals came after we lost possession at the other end of the field. You get punished and we just ran out of steam, out of energy and ideas in the end.

‘There are a lot of guys on the team who haven’t got a lot of experience, but there are also lads who have plenty of experience. We have just got to be better.’
