Finghin Collins to perform in town
LAST CONCERT IN THE SERIES PROMISES TO BE TOTALLY SPECTACULAR
RENOWNED pianist Finghin Collins will be in Drogheda next week for a spectacular concert which will mark the latest in the current Classical Music Series.
Following a season which featured some stellar artists, record audiences and glorious music, the 2017/18 Drogheda Classical Music series draws to a close on Friday, March 9th at 7.30pm with one of Ireland’s leading musicians, pianist.
Finghin Collins was born in Dublin in 1977 and, following initial lessons with his sister Mary, studied piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music with John O’Conor and at the Geneva Conservatoire with Dominique Merlet.
Winner of the RTÉ Musician of the Future Competition in 1994 and the Classical Category at the National Entertainment Awards in Ireland in 1998, he went on to take first prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 1999.
Since then he has continued to enjoy a flourishing international career that takes him all over Europe and the United States, as well to the Far East and Australia. In October 2017, the National University of Ireland conferred on him an honorary Degree of Doctor of Music, in recognition of his outstanding achievements.
No stranger to Drogheda, Finghin performed in the first concert of the Series in Oct 2012 with cellist Marc Coppey and returned in Sept 2015 with violinist Ilya Gringolts but this concert will be his first solo recital in the beautiful St Peter’s Church of Ireland – a venue and piano that Finghin frequently and publicly states he loves to play.
He will perform a programme of nocturnes and preludes by three great composers for the piano Field, Rachmaninov and Chopin. It is the perfect concert for lovers of music or newcomers looking for something different.
