St Patrick’s get off to a winning start against Glyde

-

St Patrick’s Glyde Rangers 0-11 0-4

ST PATRICK’S got their season off to a winning start just hours before the ‘Beast from the East’ bared its teeth.

However, Division 2 newcomers Glyde Rangers put up a good fight as the snow started to fall in Darver.

The Tallanstown outfit looked dead and buried at half-time, but dragged themselves back into the contest after the break.

That said, Pat’s were always in control of matters and deservedly ran out four-point winners in the end.

Dessie Finnegan opened the scoring inside the first minute with a well-taken point before Daniel O’Connor added another after five minutes.

Glyde rallied briefly to draw level, but Pat’s took a firm grip on the game, reeling off six point without reply.

Daniel O’Connor kicked three more points, Leonard Gray chipped in with a brace and Shane Murphy was also on target, making it 0-8 to 0-2 at the break.

Glyde dropped more men back after the break and it paid off as they kicked the first three scores of the second period to leave three between the sides.

Sub Ray Finnegan steadied the ship for Pat’s and Paddy Keenan added two more, one from play and a free, to re-establish Pat’s six-point cushion with 10 minutes remaining.

Glyde didn’t throw in the towel, but couold only muster two more points as Pat’s ran out comfortable winners.
