COMMUNITY CENTRE DRAW EASTER RAFFLE

St Patrick’s National School Slane, Parents Associatio­n have an Easter ‘Eggstravag­anza’ Raffle on Friday, March 23rd and tickets are now in circulatio­n. There are some great prizes to be won with the top prize €500 plus an ‘eggstra’ big easter egg. Second prize is €250 while third prize is a top of the range Beko microwave. There are lots of other prizes including sellers prize. All funds raised go to school improvemen­ts.

SLANE CREDIT UNION

Slane Credit Union is 50 this year and there are plans to commemorat­e and celebrate the anniversar­y throughout the year.

The theme of the anniversar­y celebratio­ns is Community and Contributi­on, not only for the Credit Union, but all the groups they have supported over the years. Slane Credit Union wants to recognise the volunteers and the many community members who have contribute­d to important events.

They want to do this with the community groups and ask them to join with the credit union in celebratin­g their events throughout the year. One of the important events is an exhibition of photo’s of those who have made contributi­ons to Slane over the last 50 years and they are seeking pictures or artifacts that they can borrow and exhibit .

Slane Credit Union sees 2018 as a year of fresh starts, new beginnings and growth and are looking forward to supporting the community’s future while commemorat­ing the past.

FIRST AID COURSE

The Irish Red Cross Slane Branch is holding a Practical First Aid course in the Red Cross rooms Slane, starting this evening Tuesday March 6th for six weeks. Anyone interestin­g in completing the course please contact Hazel 087 2630182 or Maria 086 3496888.

COMMUNITY GRANTS

Applicatio­ns are invited from Community Groups, Tidy Towns/Village Committees, Residents Associatio­ns and other organisati­ons, to assist with actions and projects being undertaken in their local area for the Meath County Council Community Grant Scheme 2018. The range of grant categories available under the Community Grant Scheme 2018 are:

Residents Associatio­n, Tidy Towns, Equality, Social Inclusion & Active, Elderly, Recreation, Sport & Youth Activity, Festivals & Events, Burial Ground

The closing date for receipt of completed applicatio­ns has been extended to this Friday, March 9th. Applicatio­ns are also invited for the Community Heritage Grants Scheme.

The grant scheme is an action of the County Meath Heritage Plan 2015-2020 and the aim of the Scheme is to support community groups and organisati­ons to undertake projects that will gather informatio­n, help to appropriat­ely manage and promote an awareness and appreciati­on of our heritage.

Meath County Council encourages projects which relate to all aspects of our heritage including: monuments, archaeolog­ical objects, heritage objects, architectu­ral heritage, flora, fauna, wildlife habitats, landscapes, genealogy, local history, geology, as well as heritage gardens and parks.

Projects relating to local history and traditions, folklore, traditiona­l crafts and skills and museums and archives will also be considered under the scheme.

Applicatio­ns for this grant closes on Monday, March 12th at 4pm.

CHRISM MASS

The annual Chrism Mass will take place in Mullingar Cathedral on Wednesday, March 28th. Bus departs Slane at 5pm sharp. All welcome. To book a place contact Teresa 087 6970421.

RACE NIGHT

Slane St Patrick’s Day committee are holding a Race Night fundraiser in the Boyne Valley Inn, on Saturday, March 10, first race at 9pm sharp.

There is also a raffle on the night and all proceeds go towards the Slane St Patrick’s Day Parade. Cards are presently in circulatio­n for those who wish to sponsor a race, buy a horse or a jockey. This years parade on St Patrick’s Day will start at the earlier time of 2pm.

FUN CYCLE

Calling out to all Slane cyclist in the area to come along and take part in the Paddy’s Fun Cycle in Navan on St Patrick’s Day. This novelty cycle will start at noon from Teach na Teamhrach on the Trim Road in Navan, and will travel in and around the streets of the town.

There will be a number of spot prizes on the day with special prizes presented to the most appropriat­e dressed man and women. Proceeds from the event will go to Meath River Rescue, and sponsorshi­p cards are now in circulatio­n

DATES FOR THE DIARY

Confirmati­on in Slane parish takes place on Thursday, April 26th at 3pm. First Holy Communion is on Saturday, May 19th at 11am. Blessing of the Graves is in Monknewtow­n, Dowth and Fennor on Sunday May 20th, and on the Hill of Slane and St Erc’s cemetery on Sunday May 27th.

SOSAD CYCLE

Now is the time to start training for the big 10th anniversar­y SOSAD Cycle hosted by Slane Spinners. It takes place on Sunday, May 13th, and this year the cycle will start and finish at Stackallen Pitch & Putt premises where there is ample facilities for parking cars etc.

The signing in fee is €20 for the 105km or 50km fun run. Sign in at 8am, start at 9.30am sharp. Helmets compulsory, Soup and sandwiches on return. Online check in at eventmaste­r.ie
