Michael Holohan pens a very special piece for the Drogheda Brass Band
April 1985
Musician Michael Holohan has been commissioned to write a special piece for a very important event next year — the centenary of the Drogheda Brass Band.
Michael, who had his two musical compositions “By A River” for piano and NADA No. 1 for clarinet and piano performed in Brendan Murphy’s dance studio, Bellscourt during the recent arts awareness weekend, will be having a work performed tonight in Dublin’s Buswell Hotel.
The six Epigrams of Callimabus are scored for vocalist, flute, guitar and a range of other instruments.
Two of his most recent works, “Buvinda” (old Latin name for the Boyne) and the score for the video “Childscapes” have been recorded at Paul O’Kane’s studio,” The Lodge”, Rathmullen. The musicians featured in both works were almost all from Drogheda.
Michael and local artist Richard Moore intend making a short film together during the summer.
Richard did the photography for the tape work Buvinda which was shown at the White Horse Hotel last year during the public reading given by the Barbican Writer’s Workshop.
