BOOKS@ONE

A charitable organisation called The One Foundation is exploring the possibility of opening a community bookshop in Bettystown. The Foundation already set up such a shop in Louisburgh in Mayo which has been a huge success in bringing the community together and giving everyone an opportunity to discover books.

This would be wonderful for Bettystown, which badly needs a cultural hub where people can e.g. meet and socialise over books, hold arts-related events and invite authors to do book readings.

The initial priorities are as follows: To find a shop manager – (a paid position, which can be job-sharing); To find premises - within walking distance of the Bettystown/Laytown schools so teachers can bring pupils to book-readings/activities in the shop; Additional Funding – all options considered!

If you have any ideas as to how to progress this project, or require further information, please email lcx1@eircom.net as soon as possible. See the internet link regarding the shop already set up in Louisburgh, Mayo: www. irishtimes.com/life-and-style/ people/the-shop-that-couldchangeSee also www.booksatone.ie for the bookshop website

MR. JOHN MURPHY

The community of Collon, Drogheda and surrounding areas were very saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. John Murphy, Glenmore Drive Drogheda.

John was one of Mattock Rangers greatest supporters and would attend every match. He also played with the Club in his younger days and served on the committee. He was also a huge Louth supporter.

John was a gentleman who loved his family dearly; he always had a kind word for everyone and the respect he and his family hold was very evident with the large numbers that attended his wake and funeral.

We send sincere sympathy to his wife Aileen, daughter Emer, sons Brian and Niall, grandchildren and all family members. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
