RATHMULLEN IN SHOCK AFTER MUM IN COMA FOLLOWING INCIDENT
A 28-year-old local woman is fighting for her life in Beaumont Hospital having suffered serious head injuries in an attack last weekend.
The young mother of four is understood to have underwent surgery following the incident in Rathmullen Park and is currently in an induced coma.
Gardaí in Drogheda are investigating the incident and the scene has been technically examined.
They have not revealed how the woman received her injuries and no arrests had been made at the time of going to press.
The community of Rathmullen have been left reeling by news of the injuries with many taking to Facebook to show their support and offer their thoughts and prayers to the young woman and her family at this difficult time.
The surgery is believed to have been carried out to relieve pressure on her skull.
The 28-year-old is mother to four young children aged 7, 4, 2 and 1. Local Councillor Paul Bell appealed for the local community to co-operate with gardaí during their investigation into the incident.
‘ The community have been traumatised by the seriousness of this incident,’ he said. ‘ Their thoughts and prayers are with this lady following her surgery at the weekend and as a public representative my sympathies and good wishes are with her family.
‘I am calling on the community to co-operate with the garda investigation so they can piece together the circumstances of what happened on Friday, either directly or through the garda confidential line on 1800 666 11.
