Council could be facing huge bill for fines already paid

-

PEOPLE who have been fined by Louth County Council could spark a financial disaster for the authority.

Taking a limited period of the last six years, in the region of 30,000 fines could have been issued for illegal parking - but they in turn with the suspension of the bye-laws - could be deemed illegal.

And if the council have to pay back money to those that can prove they paid their fine - sums could range from €300,0000 to €800,000 - on top of the expected loss of over €300,000 for free parking for the next three months.

Even last Tuesday, the day after the parking was suspended there was confusion.

Initially pay machines stated that payment was not required until June 21 2018.

But that message changed on the machines, and people again began to pay by lunchtime.

However, the situation was again rectified by that evening.

?? ?? The pay parking machines were still giving out tickets the day after payment was suspended.
