Payment plan for worst rent arrears tenants in Louth

-

LOUTH County Council (LCC) are working with 50 renters in the county who owe the most in backpayments to work out payment plans to recoup the debt, it has been revealed.

Senior Executive Housing, Aoife Lawler said the council had done a huge amount of work on rent arrears over the past three months with a targeted programme on the top 50 rent arrears owed in the county.

‘So the ones who owe the most, we’re chasing them hard and I’m glad to say every one of them is on a payment plan now,’ she said. ‘ They can’t afford to give us €10,000, we have to work with them to work out a payment system and allow them to remain in their house and make regular payments.

Ms Lawler said work is progressing on a number of schemes, including the new units at Scarlet Street, and the remaining unit at McArdle Green which is also onsite.

Councillor Joanna Byrne questioned why there had been no entries for Drogheda advertised in the Choice Based Letting scheme in Louth for the past four weeks, however Ms Lawler said there is always a bigger turnover of houses in Dundalk than in Drogheda.
