St Brigid’s Drama getting in the mood for ‘Steel Magnolias’

-

Drogheda drama enthusiasts will be pleased to read that St. Brigid’s Drama Group rehearsal schedule has been up and running since early January.

Following on the auditioning for Robert Harling’s acclaimed play, “Steel Magnolias”, a very promising array of talent made the cast selection process less than easy - the type of difficulty a casting director is happy to experience!

So once again St. Brigid’s “Steel Magnolias” will bring a mixture of new and familiar faces to its forthcoming production.

It is a tragic-comic testimony to the inner strength of a group of women as they support each other while facing the ups and downs that life holds for them.

The director chosen for this production, Barbara Carr, has been responsible for highly successful St. Brigid’s productions in recent years such as “Dancing at Lughnasa” by Brian Friel, “The Cripple of Irishman” by Martin Mc Donagh and “Lady Windermere’s” Fan by Oscar Wilde.

Barbara will no doubt draw on this wealth of experience to deliver another enjoyable dramatic night’s entertainment with “Steel Magnolias”, a comic drama which explores the relationships of a group of women in northwest Louisiana and the ebb and flow of their friendships, as their lives revolve around the central character who has a serious life-threatening medical condition.

Steel Magnolias is set mainly in an in-home beauty parlour with a number of strong female roles to be played.

St. Brigid’s Drama Group are always looking to encourage new acting talent onto the stage and once again are confident their audiences will be well pleased with the outcome.

The cast members are Camilla Healy, Myra Bolger, Eliza Matthews, Gillian Durnin, Janette Ballard Deirdre Kennedy and as usual will have the solid support of the St. Brigid’s production team behind them.

St. Brigid’s production of Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling will be performed in the Droichead Arts Centre for five nights, April 17th-21st, 2018 – dates worth marking in the diary if you enjoy an entertaining and uplifting night out at the theatre
