Super-sub’s strike sparks joyous scene
A DRAMATIC late winner against their Wexford SL counterparts saw Drogheda Emerging Talent Programme Under-12s end their group phase with a deserved three points at DIFE last Saturday.
The Boynesiders started brightly and eventually took the lead thanks to Dylan O’Brien’s strike, but afteer several other opportunities and penalty appeals it was Wexford who equalised from a corner kick with 10 minutes remaining.
With time running out, it seemed that the spoils would be shared, but two minutes from time Drogheda won a corner for themselves and Maithiu Brien’s kick was eventually bundled over the line by substitute Jake Neilon after a scramble.
That provoked incredible celebrations among the squad and special congratulations go to Max Gardiner who was named Man of the Match.
