BigBook Breakfast Morningat ScoilMhuirena Trocaire
From breakfast to bedtime reading and sharing stories can happen anywhere at any time and what better place to enjoy a good book and a big breakfast than in your school hall and so it was in Scoil Mhuire na Trocaire, Ardee last Thursday when the school organised a whole series of events to celebrate the joy of reading.
The day kicked off with the Junior Infants enjoying a three course breakfast in the school hall and of course they were all suitably dressed as their favourite book characters. “It was so lovely to see all the colourful characters walk through the doors for breakfast,” said teacher Mrs Rust, “we had children dressed as Pigín from Howth, the Very Hungry Caterpillar, the Gruffalo and of course all the classic characters like Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood and many more”.
After enjoying the hearty breakfast the children settled down for a cosy reading session with their teachers and they listened, discussed and enjoyed the variety of big books used.
Later in the day leaders from local playschool and other invitees came to the school to share their favourite childhood stories with the children. The school was colourfully decorated with door displays and book reviews as well as the very popular photograph display called “Guess which teacher is reading” competition.
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly reading and in Scoil Mhuire na Trócaire they certainly pull out all the stops to provide their pupils with every opportunity to develop a love of reading and good books.
