SNOW STORM

The recent snow storm left many local roads impassable across the parish of Stamullen. Amongst the worst hit were the hills and valleys around Tullog, Herbertstown, Giblockstown, Greenanstown, Damselstown, Lacystown, Saddlestown, Clinstown, Whiteleas and Ballestran. The road to Drogheda via Lisdornan, Dardistown and Cooperhill was also impassable for a number of days following the heavy snow storm and particularly as a result of the heavy drifts that affected most areas of the parish.

The Tobertown road out of Stamullen village into Fingal was also badly affected. However, unlike the heavy snow storm of 1982, the snow appeared to get cleared by machinery a lot faster this time around and most roads were passable by Monday morning March 5th.

The snow which had been cleared to the sides of the narrow country roads however remained for several days later into the weekend of March 10th & 11th; the large drifts presenting an unusual scene of banks of ice/snow some measuring almost two metres in height against the backdrop of green fields and hedgerows reflecting the rays of some lovely spring sunshine. The snows of 1982 also arrived during the first week in January of that year and not on March 1st as they have done in 2018.

PEDESTRIAN LIGHTS

The new set of pedestrian lights has at last been switched on in the vicinity of the shops in the centre of Stamullen village.
