Boyne Tavern is the place to be

-

Do you like the Glenn Miller sound and style of music ? Then the Boyne Tavern on Dyer Street is the place to be next Monday.

Putting on a show for sheer love of the music are Louis Smith and his 14-piece orchestra, which has got together recently.

This is the orchestra which figured in the pantomime and on variety concerts in the town a couple of years ago. Their music was second to none. Already, the boys have had one rehearsal during the week and Louis was very pleased with the result. He docs many of the arrangements himself and is one of the most brilliant M-Ds not alone in Drogheda but in Ireland.

All the lads in the band are local and, depending on how things go, they may make themselves available for such events as dress-dances, for which their music would be ideal, in the coming rnonths. The boys are all crazy about this type of music and make no bones about the fact that they are doing it first and foremost for their own enjoyment.

And here is the all-star lineup of which there are many wellknown names on the scene, headed by Louis himself on the organ/saxes, Raymond Buckley, Ben Mullen, Brendan Munster, John Byrne and Kevin O’Brien ; trumpets, Noel Kierans. Willie Healy and Tony Barrett; trombones, Christy Smith and Danny Kierans ; drums, Johnny Barton ; bass, Owen Lynch, and guitar, Eamonn Campbell.

On the same bill at the Tavern on Monday night next is beautiful 19-year-old singing sensation from Dublin, Helen Jordan, who is expected to hit the high spots on the pop circuit before long.
