BOOKS@ONE

A charitable organisation called The One Foundation is exploring the possibility of opening a community bookshop in Bettystown. The Foundation already set up such a shop in Louisburgh in Mayo which has been a huge success in bringing the community together and giving everyone an opportunity to discover books.

This would be wonderful for Bettystown, which badly needs a cultural hub where people can e.g. meet and socialise over books, hold arts-related events and invite authors to do book readings. The initial priorities are as follows: To find a shop manager – (a paid position, which can be job-sharing); To find premises - within walking distance of the Bettystown/Laytown schools so teachers can bring pupils to book-readings/activities in the shop; Additional Funding – all options considered! If you have any ideas as to how to progress this project, or require further information, please email lcx1@ eircom.net as soon as possible. See the internet link regarding the shop already set up in Louisburgh, Mayo: www.irishtimes. com/life-and-style/people/theshopSee also www. booksatone.ie for the bookshop website

Mornington MRS. SHEILA MILNE R.I.P.

The death took place recently of Sheila Milne nee Farrell. Sheila was a Donacarney

native before she married Ronnie Milne. After their marriage they went to live in Weir Hope Drogheda. They had five children, sons Albert, Steven, and Gerrard, and daughter Julianna. They also had another baby girl who died in her infancy. Shelia was also predeceased by her husband Ronnie who passed away last year.

Ronnie was tops in stone masonry which he worked at for many years. He then took up a job for Irish cement in Platin. Sheila and myself went to Donacarney school which is now the community centre. Shelia was like a fish out of water when her husband passed away last year. She missed him terribly. On my visit to town, about three or four days per week and I would say that when I was driving home Shelia and Ronnie would be walking down the Marsh road to their home in Weir Hope.

During the three or four days each week I would pass Sheila and Ronnie on at least two to three days never did I see one without the other.

Sincere sympathy to her sons Albert, Steven and Gerrard and daughter Julianne. Brothers Noel and Tommy and sister Kathleen, and extended family. The Silver lining is that Shelia and Ronnie are together again. May Shelia rest in peace, I’m sure she will now that she is in the arms of Ronnie.
