TWO Drogheda schools will be aiming to steal the show when they feature in the national finals of the Build A Bank competition in Dublin this week.

The AIB Build a Bank Challenge involved a team of six students selected to set up and manage a bank in their school with the full support of a dedicated AIB Student Officer. The students get involved in everything from developing a Business Plan, branding their Bank and engaging with the community to sourcing new customers through creative marketing campaigns.

St Olivers CC and St Joseph’s Secondary School got the chance to show off their skills to the local AIB staff last week and didn’t disappoint!

Led by their smooth talking Bank Manager, Gearoid Campbell, St Oliver’s have based their submission on - Take Flight Bank - Fly Away from Old Age Banking - and it also features Stephen Boland, Fiona Ogunde, Abi Kelly, Sam Floyd and Israel Olajide.

Teacher Rachel McEntee said the group prepared really hard for the event and it is invaluable to show their peers how the banking system while still at school.

‘It has improved their confidence and public speaking,’ she stated.

St Joseph’s billed themselves as Bankers of the Caribbean and were led by the accomplished Bank Manager Stan Goodwin. He had a good crew in Conor McKenna, Shane Lynch, Eoghan Ryan, Jack Connor, Niall McGinnity, Luke Rock and Paul Ziehmes.

They even went on location to record a video for their promotional section.

Teacher Michelle McEneaney has taken on the bankers for this year and is delighted with the effort the lads have put in.

Staff in the AIB were very impressed with the efforts of tbe students.
