‘ The town always looks wonderful and local people go the extra mile to ensure the town is awash with colour,’ says committee member Grainne Lally Black.

‘Businesses go Yellow and make a donation to the society to show their support for the awareness campaign.’

And this Friday March 23rd is the big day when your support is needed to donate as much as you can.

‘Would you believe this is the 30th year I will be out on the streets selling daffodils for Daffodil Day,’ says Lizanne Allen, an absolute stalwart of the annual fundraising event.

‘It is always so uplifting, even on a wet day, and Drogheda people are incredibly generous.’

Lizanne pays tribute to the legion of women, past and present, who work so hard to promote this vital month for raising funds for cancer research and support.

‘We have an incredible committee now, with younger members who work so hard to organise each event, but there have been many, many committee members over the years and their contribution is immeasurable’ she adds.

‘Over the last three decades committee members and volunteers, in Drogheda and the surrounding areas, have given of their time and talents such that in 2017 Daffodil Day Drogheda has become a veritable Festival of Yellow.’

And successful they are too. Drogheda hosts the biggest Daffodil Day event in the country, and tickets for the hugely successful annual Fashion Show, on Wednesday April 18th in the Westcourt Hotel, are now on sale.

‘ This started 25 years ago, and I have seen so many local faces up on that catwalk, it always draws huge support,’ says Lizanne.

‘Gold Tickets are €60, Silver Tickets are €40 and Bronze Tickets just €25, and are selling fast so don’t be miss out on a fantastic night.’

The Irish Cancer Society - Drogheda Volunteers committee currently comprises of local ladies, founding member Lizanne Allen, with Mary Convery, Edeltraud Kyck, Jean Coulter, Majella O’Boyle, Niamh Matthews, Vicki Mathews, Rebecca Doherty, Joanne Allen, Majella O’Boyle, Sonya Carr and Gráinne Black.
