Joes hang on to edge out Roche

-

ST JOSEPHS ROCHE EMMETS 0-11 1-6

IN the second round of the Sheelan Cup Group A the Joes edged out Roche in Cluskey Park on Thursday night.

The Joes aided by a stiff breeze raced into a six point lead within the first 10 minutes with Killian Staunton, Oisin McGuinness, Alan McKenna (2), Jack McNamee and Alan Quigley on target.

Seamus Quigley played his part when he dived full length to his right to divert a goal bound Roche effort but the visitors did get them back in contention when they kicked three points. A late point from Craig Doherty saw the Joes lead by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break.

Roche continued their revival in the second half as a goal from Eugene Murray on 35 minutes left a single point between the sides.

With Dan O’Connell on target for the Faughart side, the teams shared the next four points before an Alan McKenna free left two between the teams with ten minutes left. Doherty then added another to put the Joes three clear and his side had to endure a nervous finish before hanging on to claim victory as Roche could only manage one further point.
