Disappointment at no funding for Donore NS from Indaver fund

- BY HUBERT MURPHY

UP to €100,000 is to be given out as part of the Meath CC/ Indaver Community Fund for this year - but there’s nothing for a local school as part of the project.

Addressing last week’s area council meeting, Cathaoirleach Paddy Meade (pictured) said he was concerned that Donore school had not been included.

‘ They needed the funding for a resource room which is crucial for them,’ he stated.

He also said that St Mary’s Donore only got 10% of what they had sought.

He was told the club had received €60,000 and another €60,000 last year but they hadn’t been in touch to say what was happening with the project it was supposed to fund. ‘ They can’t stock pile money,’ a spokesperson for the fund explained.

‘If money is not spent, then others lose out.’

Cllr Eimear Ferguson also made a case for the St Mary’s club.

The overall fund was down some €150,000 on previous years due to funding for the Duleek/Bellewstown centre project and Mount Hanover NS.

41 applied and some were new ones and some were from outside the area.

That was something Cllr Sharon Keogan felt needed to be addressed.

‘ The defined area is clear and I’m disappointed that some of the funding went outside the area,’ she stated. She estimated that 25% went outside the area of the scheme.

The Duleek and District Text Alert scheme had sought funding for the the upkeep of the system and didn’t get anything and neither did the columbarium in Duleek cemetery. She also highlighted the case of Donore NS.

She made the point of Julianstown Community Centre getting €2,500 when they could have applied through LEADER funding.

‘I am concerned that the money is not going to the defined area of interest.’

Wayne Harding agreed that a defined area was needed.

‘If you let it slip then confusion begins,’ he remarked.

Cllr Meade added that he felt the scheme should be called the Meath CC fund as it was part of Indaver’s planning permission that it take place each year.

The proposed applications must now be ratified at the full council meeting.
