Spanish Ambassador visits St. Oliver´s Community College

The Spanish Ambassador to Ireland, Sr. José María Rodríguez- Coso delighted the students and staff of St. Oliver’s when he spent the morning learning about how Spanish is taught in the school. He congratula­ted the school on their Spanish debating success, having won the Shield for the second time in three years. He also wished the best of luck to the students participat­ing in the national Linguistic Olympiad final in Dublin.

Spanish has gone from strength to strength in the school and with over 650 students of Spanish, St. Oliver’s is one of the biggest Spanish-teaching schools in the country. The Ambassador met with students of all ages and he remarked on their enthusiasm and engagement. He praised the creative and modern approach to teaching and learning languages. He also commented on the obvious positive working relationsh­ip between students and teachers, and the happy environmen­t in the school. He loved the cultural diversity of the school population, with over 45 nationalit­ies adding Spanish to their mother-languages. He said that the variety of languages and cultures is a national asset, and augers well for the school and the country.

He conveyed his support to the school in the promotion of the Spanish language and culture, and offered the embassy’s assistance to the students in furthering their studies in the years to come.
