Scoreline harsh on promising U-15s

BOHEMIANS DROGHEDA UNITED 2 0

A SECOND Bohemians goal with time almost up gave the scoreline a rather flattering look from their point of view as Drogheda United Under-15s made a decent start to their league campaign at St Aidans on Sunday.

From the start Bohemians pressed the visitors’ defence hard, but although on the back foot for most of the first half the Drogs didn’t lose their shape and they gradually worked their way into the game.

Just before the half-hour the visitors had the best chance of the half when Francis Campbell gained possession at the edge of the box and struck a brilliant shot which struck the bar and bounced away to safety.

The teams went in 0-0 at the interval and on the resumption the game was still evenly balanced, with both sides having chances.

On 66 minutes John McDonagh had a good shot cleared away for a corner.

But soon after that Bohs took the lead with a header from a corner.

Almost immediately the Drogs were awarded a free just outside the box and Sean Buchanan hit what seemed to be an unstoppable shot towards the top corner, only for the Bohemians keeper to make a brilliant save.

Bohemians’ second goal didn’t come until two minutes from time following a goalmouth scramble and Drogs manager Morgan Hughes would not have been too disappointed with this display and will be looking forward to their next outing. DROGHEDA UNITED: Antonio Ignat, Aaron Murphy, John McDonagh, Nick Palov, Jack Crowe, Tadgh Connolly, Michael Burns, Michael Hilliard, Francis Campbell, Sean Buchanan, Joshua Wall.
