Oskars are hailed as big RNLI success
IT is rare in a community that a single event could be described as inspirational, but in Clogherhead the Oskars seems to have done just that.
Who would have thought that a small village could produce seven wonderful short films in three months, unleashing creative energy in spades, and pack out the TLT at a gala night, and have such a cross-community support? And be a showcase for talent in our senior citizens and young?
This was down to seven people: Tomás Whelehan, Carolyn Stanley, Lisa Levins Burgess, Paraic A’Coistealbha, Derek Shevlin, Barbara Kirk, and Gerard Sharkey. Working alongside Kevin Rowe Events and the TLT, they were the prime movers whose efforts and commitment to the Shannon project led to the success of the Oskars phenomenon. On Friday night they held a function in Baltray Golf Club to thank the actors and others who assisted in any way with the Oskars. In turn, the seven committee members were taken aback by a presentation to acknowledge their achievements, a mark of their modesty.
‘Clogherhead RNLI Branch wishes to acknowledge with grateful thanks the exceptional help and support given in aid of the Shannon Project by our seven colleagues. We especially thank all of the actors and members of the community for their help and generosity over the three months. We are very grateful to the Drogheda Independent and other local media outlets for the tremendous ongoing support. We also wish to thank County Louth Golf Club for hosting a very pleasant evening, and for helping out with the Shannon Lifeboat Project,’ a spokesperson added
