TIME TO PUT THE BYE-LAWS TO THE PEOPLE
COUNCILLOR Paul Bell says he’ll be pushing for the proposed new bye-laws on pay parking in Drogheda to be put to the people as soon as possible.
Councillors meet this Wednesday to discuss the byelaw fiasco.
‘I will be proposing that the new bye-laws be immediately put to the public as the legislation requires to initiate the public consultation process,’ he stated.
“I believe it is in the interest of the social and economic development of our citizens and town that we as a Council immediately act to correct an error which has evidently had a negative impact.
“I have also witnessed a large amount of political postering by some councillors in the period of the suspension of the bye law and this I believe exhibits a disconnect with the suffering many citizens and businesses have been experiencing throughout period of this crisis. An example of which is whereby communities in the Windmill Road and Cord Road and adjoining streets are experiencing a siege as free parking has led to them experiencing being locked into their homes as parking is unavailable for them, visiting family members, carers or doctors calling.’
Bell also pointed out that the publication of the bye laws will allow citizens, businesses and elected members to make proposals on how parking practices and facilities can be improved.
He says he intends to make a submission on the issue of the provision of designated residents parking especially in areas like the Windmill Road, Cord Road and adjoining streets.
‘I will also be requesting the replacement of free parking lost to the new housing development on Scarlet Street required for workers entering the town from the east. It’s time to commence the debate without further delay”.
