Blues legends are set for a return!

-

NEWTOWN Blues are holding a novel fundraiser as part of their preparation to host Feile Peile na nOg at the end of June.

Saturday April 28th at 7pm will see many old Blues players dust off their boots, go searching for the shorts, gloves and socks and take to the field for an Over 35s challenge which see the Blues Legends take on a team known affectionately as the Blow-Ins.

Since the idea for the game was first floated a month ago there was been a lot of reminiscing among former players about games and escapades from years gone by as well as a lot of very brave talk about what capabilities would or would not be on the show on the 28th.

The idea of the game is to have some fun, renew old friendships, create new ones and have a great evening celebrating all that the Newtown Blues club is renowned for while raising some much needed funds for Feile.

The club are expecting up to 50 players to participate on the night and are hoping for a big crowd of supporters to attend.

Among those well-known former players that are expected to play are former Louth and current Westmeath manager Colin Kelly, current Blues manager Ronan “Smiley” Phillips and current Castleknock manager and Leinster GAA coach Colm Nally. Joining those names will be a host of family names synonymous with the Blues - Judges, Carrs, Nugents and Phillips’ to name just a few. There are even rumours that some lads are doing a bit of secret training..... There will be a social evening in Garveys after the game and all are welcome. Anyone interested in participating or attending the game should contact the club via its Facebook page.
