Humbled to have been included in civic awards with so many great people
Dear Sir,
Having experienced the wonderful honour of a Civic Award bestowed upon me by the Mayor of Drogheda, Pio Smith, I’m so humbled to have been chosen along with the other very worthy recipients in receiving such a prestigious civic commendation.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have offered me good wishes and congratulations on receiving this award.
I have been fortunate throughout my lifetime to have made so many friends in the various organisations with which I have been involved. Without the help and support of all of these friends my efforts would have been in vain.
Most of all, my wife Patsy, who has always been a great help and support to me, never complaining with the amount of time I have given to the numerous activities and organisations with which I became involved.
My two wonderful sons, Anthony and David, of whom I’m so proud, for also supporting me & following in the tradition of taking part in sports & community activity.
I’m also so proud of the family from whence I came, because of their propensity to become actively involved in the societies and communities where they live.
In this regard, I remember the great inspiration my late sister, Rosemary, was to me. Her memory and presence was with me throughout the evenings proceedings.
Lastly, I extend my grateful thanks to my fellow choristers in the Drogheda Male Voice Choir, for hosting the post Mayoral Award Celebration in The d Hotel where I was joined by so many friends, from far and wide, who shared such a memorable night with me.
The d Hotel was magnanimous in their lovely gesture to me and their attention to detail & service for the evening was excellent.
With choral singing now delightfully occupying a large part of my life, I oft times sum up poignant moments with words or a title from a song.:
“If I could help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain”.
