PCI pledge 250 jobs within five years at new Drogheda plant
PLANS for over 250 jobs for Drogheda in the next five years were unveiled last week following the launch of a packaging facility on the Donore Road by US company PCI Pharma Services.
Initially, a further 70 jobs will be sought for the plant to add to the existing workforce, bringing the total to over 100.
However, the company’s global CEO Bill MItchell told the Drogheda Independent their future plans for expansion would bring at least 150 more jobs to the town by 2023.
‘We deal with all the large global pharmaceutical companies, and it is vital that we are close to an international airport, which was a key consideration,’ said Mr Mitchell
‘ Then as we got to know the space and the place, we knew working with Pascal (Keogh) would be the perfect fit.’
A proud Meath man, Mr Keogh founded Millmount Healthcare, which was recently aquired by PCI, and he says it is a very proud day for him.
‘ The site is in Meath and we have history in Drogheda of almost 20 years, so it’s great to be able to expand ourselves in Louth and bring a substantial job increase to the area of at least 100 jobs over the next few years,’ he said following the plant launch.
‘We need diversity in the company, so I hope we see a blend of local workforce with a diverse workforce, and there are currently four more companies looking to use the facility, so the success story continues.’
The building, formerly a small Enterprise Centre, was purchased by Millmount Healthcare in 2016 in response to increased demand for the specialist packing and handling service which was active on a smaller scale at its City North packing facility.
The site is 15,000 square feet and will be a dedicated high containment packaging facility with packing capabilities including primary packaging of blisters, sachets, bottles and container filling.
Positions will be advertised over the coming weeks for skilled and semi-skilled jobs.
