PARKING ZONES PART OF PLANS

-

COUNCILLOR Paul Bell confirmed that his desire to see additional free car parking spaces for workers and visitors to Drogheda has the potential to become a reality with funds being made available to extend existing free Council Car Park on Donore Road (pictured).

“Yes I am deeply encouraged with the quality of discussion which took place at the Drogheda Municipal Council meeting of Councillors convened to discuss issues concerning the impact of the proposed parking bye laws and ongoing issues concerning parking in Drogheda” said Bell

“I am also more confident that residents on the Windmill Road and Annville Crescent will see a determined effort by Council to introduce measures which will lift the siege from this community. The measures under consideration will involve Council engaging with the HSE at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to discuss parking activity in and around the Hospital. The majority of Councillors are strongly considering introducing a parking fee structure which will discourage long term car parking on the street and which in turn will give relief to the community. I for one will one will support such a measure once infrastructural measures are put in place to stop cars parking on footpaths in Annville Crescent and Boyle O’Reilly”. Said Bell

Bell also confirmed that the new parking bye laws will allow for Councillors to introduce parking zones where varying parking fees can apply depending on proximity to the town centre. This measure championed by Mayor Pio Smith will also receive Councillor Bell’s support.
