Blues breeze past Cooley

NEWTOWN BLUES COOLEY KICKHAMS 1-11 0-1

NEWTOWN Blues maintained their 100 per cent start to the campaign when they easily accounted for Cooley Kickhams at Newfoundwell.

There have been some classic encounters between the sides over the years but it was clear from early on that this game was not going to fall into that category.

In what proved to be a very low scoring first half the Drogheda men managed just four points but it was enough to send them in with a lead as Cooley failed to raise a white flag.

The Blues increased the tempo in the second half and began to make a greater impression on the scoreboard with Jamie Kelly, Ross Nally and Paul Moore finding the target, while Ciaran Downey scored the only goal of the game to ensure his side have eight points from four games.

Cooley fared little better as an attacking threat in the second half although they did manage to avoid going the full hour without scoring as Emmet Rogan kicked their only point of the game.
