OUR second Golfer of the year the Centenary/Stroke/Medal was staged on Saturday and brought scoring. Marie Fegan carded 76 nett to win closely followed by runner up Anne McDonnell on 78 nett. Front 9 winner was Marian Murnaghan on 34 nett while the back nine went to Monica Mullen on 39 nett.

Lady members Thursday evening 9 hole stableford competitio­n takes place this week. Usual Thursday Open Stableford continues throughout the day with alternate day play available.

This Saturday the Hunter Moore Cup Stableford will be staged with prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd (subject to entry).

MACBRIDE P&P

THE MacBride Club Matchplay Finals took place on Sunday in perfect weather conditions.

The Ladies semi-final match was a tight affair between mother and daughter Anne Fagan and Audrey Donnelly. The latter won the match on the 35th hole and went on to meet Patricia Reilly in the decider and Audrey continued her fine form to capture the Ladies title.

The Gents Junior Grade final featured Pat Gorman and John Donnelly, with Pat having won his semi-final match against JoJo Murphy and John making it to the final following his match with Martin Kirwan.

A close contest between Pat and John saw John edge ahead in the second round to win the match 2&1.

The Inter Grade final was won on the 36th hole by Owen Campbell, who beat Liam Flood in the semi-final earlier in the morning. His opponent for the final was Alan Cluskey who had won out earlier against Eamonn Furlong.

The Gents Senior final was again a closely contested match between Pádraic Sarsfield and Barry Thornton. Both players continued their fine semi-final form, having enjoyed wins over Mark Donnelly and David O’Brien respective­ly.

The two Seniors put on a wonderful display of quality pitch & putt and it was Barry who took the title 5&4.

The presentati­on of prizes took place in the clubhouse afterwards. Well done to all the winners and thank you to those who entered the competitio­n and all the members who turned out to support their fellow club players.

There was no winner of last Tuesday’s club lotto jackpot. The numbers were 2, 20, 21, & 23 and the lucky dip winners were Christy McDonagh, Brendan Walker and Mickey Bedford. The next draw will take place on Tuesday May 8th, with a jackpot prize of €3,100. Thank you for your continued support.

There will be no club competitio­n this week as Seapoint host their Open Scotch Foursomes from on Wednesday to Sunday, with their Scratch Cup on Monday 7th. Members are encouraged to show your support.

The next club competitio­n at MacBride will be the Annual Noel Gorman Memorial. Times of play are Wednesday 9th and Saturday 12th at 2pm and Sunday 13th at 10am and 2pm.

WELL done to everyone who took part in the weekend’s stroke competitio­n which was sponsored by Micron Engineerin­g, Coes Road, Dundalk.

The event was won by Jim Hanratty (handicap 23) with a net score of 63. Jim was well ahead of second-placed Tomas Pepper (2) who had a nett 68, while in third place with another nett 68 was Christophe­r Kearney (16). Congratula­tions to the winners and a big thank-you to our sponsor.

OUR Open Scotch Foursomes, kindly sponsored by Cllr Oliver Tully, are on this week - times of play Wednesday to Friday 10am to 7.30pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm (last card). Cards cost €4 and there will be prizes in the following categories - Gents 36 Nett, 36 Gross, 18 Nett & 18 Gross; Ladies 36 Nett & 36 Gross; and Mixed 36 Nett, 36 Gross, 18 Nett & 18 Gross.

On bank holiday the Seapoint Scratch Cup, kindly sponsored by Pat Greene, takes place over 54 holes - times of play 8am to 1pn and 4pm for the play-off. Locals are requested to play before 11am and it’s the top 12 + ties for the final 18 holes (in attendance).

The entry fee is €10 and prizes are as follows: Winner €250, 2nd €150, 3rd €100, Final 18 €60, Gents Inter (36 Gross) €100, Gents Junior (36 Gross) €100, Ladies (36 Gross) €100. All prizes are vouchers.

All players are requested to park in the car park and meals will be available all day.
