COUNTRY CYCLISTS

In recent times there appears to be more and more cyclists taking to the roads as a means of getting out in the fresh air, while keeping fit & healthy and, in a parish and surrounds that has a particularly long association with cyclists and cycling clubs, it is always great to see this mode of transport being preferred over a motorised vehicle; good for the cyclist and good for the environment etc.

However, there also appears to be a problem with cyclists now travelling on many of the rural, smaller country roads and in many instances they are cycling two, often three abreast and sometimes more. This type of `collective-group-cycling` is also making it very difficult for the motorist who chance to travel up behind the cyclists and who now finds it extremely hard and dangerous while trying to overtake cyclist who continue cycling in pairs or larger groups in front of the vehicles on such winding country roads.

We are all for cycling, health issues and the environment, but there needs to be respect and awareness to all road users and it would be a small but very worthy gesture if cyclist were to form a single line of cycling while travelling along such smaller rural and dangerous roads; therefore making the roads a lot safer for all concerned!

JULIANSTOWN ASSOCIATION

The Julianstown & District Community Association group have recently carried out their annual clean-up of Julianstown village and the surrounding rural parish roads; presenting a fine image to all who pass through it on a daily basis. The Community Garden, facing the Laytown Road is in fabulous condition at the moment with beautiful floral displays, seating area, local wildlife and the chirping and singing of the wild birds at this time of the year makes this garden a tranquil setting and a treasure to behold in the east Meath village. The display of daffodils and tulips etc. across the village to beyond Whitecross also looks a picture now in late spring. Well done to all concerned.
