-

July 1951

AT a recent committee meeting of Drogheda Corporation, the County Manager (Mr. J. L. MacKell) stated that 14 of the 138 houses at Glenview ( Yellowbatter) were ready for occupation and that he intended to select tenants for the entire 138 houses so that, as the houses became ready for occupation, the tenants could be installed.

He proposed to give the members of the Corporation an opportunity of scrutinising the proposed list of selected tenants so that they would be able to bring to his notice any case not included which ought to have been included. The list would not be final until after the members had had an opportunity of criticising it.

After a discussion Ald. Pcntony moved that the Corporation leave the selection of tenants entirely to the Manager and officials, and Colr. Murphy seconded.

Ald. Martin moved, as an amendment, that the Corporation move the proposal as put forward by the County Manager and that they co-operate in the selection of tenants with the exception of taking any responsibility for date of occupation by subtenants of Corporation houses.

The latter proposal was carried by five votes to two, Ald. Walsh. Ald. Martin and Councillors Carr, McGrane and Whelan voting for it.

The County Manager then submitted names of 14 tenants selected for the first 14 houses at Yellowbatter, as follows : —
