Crucial win for Gers

-

GERALDINES SEAN O’MAHONYS 0-13 0-12

GERALDINES moved off the foot of the table on score difference when they edged out the Sean O’Mahonys in an entertaining game at Haggardstown on Friday evening.

Five points apiece from Michael Reynolds and Josh Arrowsmith helped propel the Gers to what could be a vital victory. Although Stephen Kilcoyne and Ben McLaughlin combined to score ten for the O’Mahonys it wasn’t enough to prevent a fifth defeat of the season.

The Dundalk men have been finding it difficult to find their best form in recent times but with Kilcoyne and McLaughlin catching the eye they led by two points to no score, before Shaun Callan and Arrowsmith replied.

It wasn’t looking good for the hosts when they went 0-5 to 0-2 behind. However, they turned things around in impressive fashion and scores from Cillian Dempsey, Rogers and Arrowsmith saw them go in at the break level at six points apiece.

Despite the Gers being reduced to 14 men in the third quarter the game remained in the balance with each team adding four points to their tally. In the closing moments the Haggardstown side saw Rogers score a brace before Callan put them three ahead.

The O’Mahonys rallied in the dying moments but it was too late to save the game and the Gers held out for a huge two points.
