DROGHEDA UNITED BOHEMIANS 0 2

TWO first-half goals proved enough for Bohemians Under-15s to pick up all three points against Drogheda at United Park on Sunday afternoon.

In a match played mostly in a steady downpour, Bohs gave a warning sign of their intent when hitting the post in the opening seconds and they eventually took the lead on nine minutes.

The Drogs were finding it hard to match the superior play of the visitors and just could not get a foothold in midfield, but at 1-0 down they were still very much in the game.

However, their hopes of turning fortunes in their favour suffered a severe blow on 28 minutes when Bohemians were awarded a penalty for what Drogheda felt was an innocuous tackle and the visitors duly made it 2-0 from the spot.

In the second half the Drogs were more disciplined in their play at the back and stifled Bohs’ attacking threat, with Nick Pavlov and full-backs John McDonagh and Aaron Murphy in excellent form and keeper Antonio Ignat dealing very capably with dangerous crosses and shots.

The Boynesiders had little possession in the final third but still contrived to create two really good chances in the 71st and 75th minutes, neither of which were taken.

Ultimately it was not to be their day, but they can take heart from a good overall display and count themselves unlucky not to have scored a consolation goal at the very least.

DROGHEDA UNITED: Antonio Ignat, Aaron Murphy, John McDonagh, Nick Pavlov, Michael Hilliard, Aaron Naughton, Tadgh Connolly, Sean Buchanan, Michael Burns, Michael Leddy, Joshua Wall. Subs: Jack McCarthy, Luke Caffrey, Craig Gray, Jack Crowe, Owen Murphy, Ruari Kinsella, Francis Campbell.
